Alston Avenue Widening

Fast Facts

Project # U-3308
Type: Widening, Bridge Replacement
Affected Counties: Durham
Estimated Cost: $30,315,000

Description

This $30 million project is designed to widen NC 55 (Alston Avenue) to a four lane divided road from NC 147 (I. L. “Buck” Dean Freeway) to US 70 Business-NC 98 (Holloway Street).

The NCDOT also plans to replace the Norfolk-Southern railroad bridges.

Project planning for this undertaking began in the early 2000s, but the NCDOT went back to the drawing board after the community’s negative reaction to the project’s projected removal of Los Primos Supermarket.

The changes that were made include only striping the road to make one travel lane in each direction on the portion from Main Street north to Holloway Street. The extra room will be used for bike lanes and parking spaces.

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
