Fast Facts

Project # R-3830
Type: Road Widening
Affected Counties: Lee
Estimated Cost: $35,718,000

Description

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to widen a 5.4-mile section of Broadway Road (NC 42) from the town of Sanford to Broadway in Lee County. The new four-lane road will begin where Horner Boulevard intersects Broadway Road in Sanford and end at East Harrington Avenue in Broadway.

There are numerous intersections along this stretch of roadway and many accidents have occurred as a result of left turns. Because traffic is expected to double by 2040, the new highway will all but eliminate left turns at intersections without traffic signals. Instead the NCDOT plans to install U-turn lanes with

A sidewalk will also be installed on one side of the new roadway.

Project Schedule

  • Right-of-way acquisition – In progress
  • Start Construction – 2019
  • End Construction – 2021

Property Takings

It is estimated that this project will impact more than 100 parcels of property. Currently the NCDOT has set aside $12,198,000 for right-of-way and utility takings for these properties. If your property will be affected, contact one of our attorneys (four of whom previously worked as attorneys for the NCDOT) for a free case evaluation.

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
