N.C. 42 Road Widening from Glen Laurel Road to Buffalo Road
Project # R-3825B
Type: Road Widening
Affected Counties: Johnston
Estimated Cost: $25,500,000
The NCDOT plans to widen a 4.5-mile section of N.C. 42 from Glen Laurel Road (SR 1902) to Buffalo Road (SR 1003) in Clayton, and also replace the current bridge over the Neuse River. This project is an extension of the completed N.C. 42 widening from U.S. 70/N.C. 42 to Glen Laurel (NCDOT TIP # R-3825A).
The current two-lane roadway will be widened to four lanes with a raised median and turn lanes at Fox Ridge Road, Castleberry Road, East School Road, Bennett Place, Neuse River Parkway, Queen Anne Drive, Neuse Colony Drive, Motorcycle Road, and Buffalo Road.
This corridor of N.C. 42 is being widened in an effort to ease congestion and accommodate continued growth in Clayton, which is among the fastest growing areas in Johnston County.
