Project # C-5179
Type: Bike lane and sidewalk construction
Affected Counties: Orange
Estimated Cost: $2,586,000
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the Town of Chapel Hill are planning to build new sidewalks and bike lanes in Chapel Hill. The project involves constructing five-foot-wide bike lanes and sidewalks from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard (N.C. 86) to Caswell Drive in Chapel Hill. Construction of a ten-foot-wide multiuse path will start from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and connect through to Elliott Road.
This project is expected to help with traffic congestion as well as provide intersection improvements.
- Right-of-way acquisition - Currently underway
- Start Construction - 2017
- End Construction - 2018
It is estimated that more than 15 parcels of property will be impacted by this project. Currently the NCDOT has set aside $300,000 for right-of-way takings. If your property will be affected, contact one of our attorneys (two of whom previously worked on behalf of the NCDOT) for a free case evaluation.
