NC 268 Widening

Fast Facts

Project # R-2603
Type: Widening, Roadway Improvements
Affected Counties: Wilkes
Estimated Cost: $28.7 million

Description

This North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) project proposes to widen 2.9 miles of NC 268 from its existing multi-lane section east of NC 18 to SR 1966 (Airport Road). The design includes a divided, landscaped median and bike lanes

About 0.7 miles of the existing multi-lane section from NC 18 to a point near Shaver Street would also get an upgrade, including replacing the drainage structures, curb and gutter and resurfacing the area.

The purpose of the project is to alleviate congestion and improve the general flow of traffic for locals and those just passing through the area.

According to the NCDOT, rear-end collisions are the most common type of collision along this stretch of NC 268 and those numbers are often indicative of congested traffic conditions.

This project was ranked fourth on a list of 40 projects for Wilkes, Ashe, Alleghany, Avery, Yancey, Mitchell and Watauga counties, according to the Journal Patriot.

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
