Tom Starling Road
Project # W-5512
Type: Road Improvements
Affected Counties: Cumberland
Estimated Cost: $3,750,000
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to widen and improve Tom Starling Road in Cumberland, North Carolina.
The section where construction will occur begins a half mile from I-95 Business on Tom Starling Road and continues to a half mile short of NC 87.
Supporters hope this project will improve traffic flow and the safety of many sections of the roadway.
There have been 126 car accidents on Tom Starling Road in the past five years. The DOT is implementing many changes to reduce the number of accidents.
This project aims to widen certain sections of the road by two feet, partially straighten curves, and improve turn lanes.
However, there are some concerns about the potential impacts on the surrounding community.
In Cumberland, this project will affect business, land, and home owners.
