US 21 Widening

Fast Facts

Project # R-3101
Type: Road Widening
Affected Counties: Alleghany
Estimated Cost: $21,000,000

Description

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is in the process of widening 12 miles of US 21 in Alleghany County.

The stretch in question starts south, near Lake Louise at Oklahoma Road/Old Gap Road (SR 1100) in Roaring Gap, and extends north, past the High Meadows area, under the Blue Ridge Parkway, through Glade Valley and ends at Pine Swamp Road in Sparta (SR 1121).

Currently US 21 is a two-lane road with 10-15 foot lanes and two-foot grass shoulders. Under the new design, it will be upgraded to a 24 foot, two-lane facility, with two foot paved shoulders.

According to the NCDOT, “The project purpose is to improve the safety along US 21.”

This safety issue is a result of expected increased traffic. In their 2004 study, the NCDOT predicted that US 21 will see 2,800-6,3000 more cars per day in 2030.

The project crosses numerous rivers and streams including Laurel Branch, Brush Creek and Little Glad Creek.

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
