Booker Dairy Road Extension

Fast Facts

NCDOT TIP # U-3334B
Project Type:
 Road Extension
Affected Counties:
 Johnston
Estimated Cost: $
 10,400,000

Description

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will construct a new 1.87-mile section of Booker Dairy Road. The new road will reroute the eastern end of Booker Dairy Road, carrying it behind the shopping centers that house Belk and Walmart before intersecting with North Bright Leaf Boulevard. The project will also widen Booker Dairy Road from Buffalo Road to the new intersection with North Bright Leaf Boulevard.

Those in favor of the extension assert that because Booker Dairy Road is a major Smithfield thoroughfare, the project will help ease traffic congestion and promote better traffic flow.

Similar road widening and extension projects have been met with resident concerns over potential impacts on businesses, land, and home owners.
