North Tryon Street Business Corridor Improvements
City of Charlotte Project Code # 512-10-039
Project Type: Street Improvements
Affected Counties: Mecklenburg
Estimated Cost: $ 9,500,000
As the City of Charlotte continues its Uptown facelift, new incentives for growth and development are planned along the North Tryon Street business corridor. The width of North Tryon Street will be reduced between Dalton and West 30th Streets to reconfigure the traffic pattern. The new traffic pattern will become a one-way pair configuration along the North Tryon Street and Church Street corridors.
To help promote safer pedestrian traffic, additional changes to this corridor include traffic calming features, crosswalks, new sidewalk, planting strips, planted medians, landscaping, decorative lighting, bike lanes, utility relocation, and fewer and smaller driveway openings.
As the city council continues to help incentivize development and growth in distressed business corridors, proponents suggest that these improvements will help foster that objective by providing safer pedestrian crossings.
