U.S. 21/N.C. 115 #38 Bridge Replacement

Fast Facts

Project # B-4982
Type: Bridge replacement
Affected Counties: Iredell
Estimated Cost: $3,781,500

The NCDOT proposes to replace the 126-foot bridge (Bridge #38) on U.S. 21/N.C. 115 over Third Creek in Iredell County.

The proposed bridge will be a three-lane 150-foot bridge and widened to include 11.5-foot offsets to accommodate future bike lanes and sidewalks.

Replacement will result in safer traffic operations.

Originally built in 1921, Bridge #38 has a current sufficiency rating of 27.3 out of a possible 100 for a new structure. It is considered structurally deficient due to a superstructure rating of 3 and a substructure condition rating of 4 out of possible ratings of 9. And both the concrete superstructure and substructure have deteriorated to the point that they can no longer be addressed by maintenance.
