Independence Blvd, Charlotte – Road Widening Project Stalled

Independence Blvd Widening
In late March, news sources in Charlotte reported locals voicing concerns over the upcoming project to widen Independence Boulevard, from Sharon Amity to Conference Drive.

The main concern – when is the project going to actually get started? Over a year after the $170 million project was scheduled to begin, business owners are starting to get antsy.

Several business owners reported that they’ve seen shop after shop on Independence permanently close their doors and are uneasy of how the changes will affect them.

The contract between the NC Department of Transportation (DOT) and the contractor allowed for construction to begin as early April 1st, but according to WSOC-TV, “that won’t happen.” WSNC reports that the project will take until 2014 to complete.

If a proposed road project will affect your home or business, you may be entitled to compensation – and it may be more than what the DOT initially offers you.

In our experience, the DOT, like any other buyer, will try to acquire your property for the lowest amount possible. And they may not take into consideration all the effects the proposed changes may have on your home or business.

At the NC Eminent Domain Law Firm, to demonstrate our confidence in our ability to help property owners get more value for their property, we guarantee that we will not take an attorneys’ fee unless you collect more for your property than the government’s original offer.
