Description

The Town of Cary has been developing the Morrisville Parkway Extension and NC 540 Interchange Project for over 10 years.

This is the final segment that will complete the Morrisville Parkway corridor from NC 55 to Green Level Church Road. The extension includes an interchange along the new road with NC 540 (Western Wake Expressway).

The current plans are to build the 1.83 mile segment as a two-land road, but make concessions for future widening (to four-lanes) once traffic necessitates and funding is available.

According to the Town of Cary, the purpose of the project is to increase connectivity in western Cary and provide better access to the NC 540 Outerloop, than the current interchange at NC 55 and Green Level West Road provides. They further hope to reduce congestion along NC 55 and Green Level Church Road.

Cary has partnered with the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the NC Turnpike Authority and several private developers to complete various sections of the project sooner.

The NC Turnpike Authority already built the bridge over 540 to prepare for the new interchange and developers for the Greystone and Oaks at Highcroft segments are currently constructing their promised sections at the east and west ends of the segment.

The NCDOT held a public seminar to share their proposed design on Tuesday, November 5^th, 2013.
