Capital Blvd Bridge Replacements Over Peace St. & Wade Ave.

Fast Facts

NCDOT TIP # B-5121, B-5317
Type: Bridge Replacements
Affected Counties: Wake
Estimated Cost: $40.4 to $74.6 million

The North Carolina Department of Transportation plans to replace and enhance two bridges along Capital Boulevard (US Highway 70/US Highway 401) – one over Wade Avenue that was built in 1954, and one over Peace Street that was built in 1948.

Both bridges have sufficiency ratings under 45 (out of a possible 100) and the bridge over Wade Avenue is in such bad shape that a weight limit is now posted.

But the bridges are not simply being reconstructed. The new bridges will be wider and higher, and this redesign will affect local residents and businesses, such as Finch’s Family Restaurant.

As a result of the impact on the surrounding area, these projects have been hotly contested, several public meetings were held and several designs were considered.

On April 22, 2014, the NCDOT held a public hearing and recommended Alternative P5 at Peace Street (square loop interchange – see map below) and Alternative W-Base at Wade Avenue (trumpet interchange).

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
