NC 24/27 Widening From NC 73 to Troy Bypass
NCDOT TIP # R-2527
Project Type: Roadway widening to multilanes
Affected Counties: Montgomery
Estimated Cost: $ 62,719,000
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to widen 8.2 miles of NC 24/27 from the east end of the Pee Dee River Bridge to the Troy Bypass.
The highway will be widened from two lanes to four in an effort to improve traffic flow and the level of service on this section of NC 24/27. However, the NCDOT will impose control of access along much of the project’s length, meaning the NCDOT will be allowed to limit where property owners are able to connect to the highway. Further, some home and business owners may be forced to move to make way for the widened highway.
This upgrade is part of the overall improvement of NC 24/27 in Stanly and Montgomery counties and includes:
R-2530B – Widening NC 24/27 from NC 740 in Albemarle to the Pee Dee River
B-4974 – Replacing Bridge No. 51 over the Pee Dee River
- Right-of-way acquisition – Early 2019
- Start Construction – 2021
- End Construction – 2024
It is estimated that more than 45 parcels of property will be impacted by this project. Currently the NCDOT has set aside $9,437,000 for property acquisitions.
