Fast Facts

Project # R-2582A
Type: Road Widening
Affected Counties: Northampton
Estimated Cost: $76,600,000

Description

Project R-2582A is an effort on the part of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to widen 8.2 miles of U.S. 158 from I-95/N.C. 46 in Roanoke Rapids to St. John Church Road west of Jackson. Most of the current two-lane road will be widened to a four-lane median-divided road. In addition, the project will include a bypass of Garysburg.

U.S. 158 is a major North Carolina thoroughfare reaching west from Winston-Salem to the Outer Banks on the east coast. It is also the primary east-west route connecting both I-85 and I-95 to the northern coast of North Carolina. Widening this road in strategic areas is expected to help improve the traffic flow and safety of both local and state-wide travelers. It is also an effort to improve access to existing and future businesses along the U.S. 158 corridor in Northampton County.

Property Takings

It is estimated that this project will impact 125 parcels of property. Currently, the NCDOT has set aside $13,550,000 for right-of-way takings for these properties. If your property will be affected, contact one of our attorneys (four of whom previously worked as attorneys for the NCDOT) for a free case evaluation.

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
