US 258 Superstreet (Pony Farm Rd. to Burgaw Hwy)

Fast Facts

Project # U-5739
Type: Superstreet
Affected Counties: Onslow
Estimated Cost: $15,884,000

Description

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to make improvements to a 2.2-mile stretch of US 258, also known as Richlands Highway, from Pony Farm Road (SR 1212) to NC 53 (Burgaw Highway) in Jacksonville, NC.

According to the NCDOT, the primary purpose of reconstruction is to try to reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow on US 258.

Improvements include constructing a superstreet along this corridor of US 268. This includes replacing the center turn lane with a median and constructing left turn cross-overs at key locations between Pony Farm Road and NC 53.

The NCDOT prefers a superstreet design because it simplifies the number of choices drivers have to make, thus minimizing conflict points at an intersection.

According to the NCDOT, a traditional intersection has 32 potential conflict points, while a superstreet only has 14. Since intersections have long been a trouble spot for motorists and are often the scene of accidents, design engineers hope that by reducing the number of conflict points, they can potentially reduce the number of accidents.

Property Takings

It is estimated that more than 100 parcels of the property will be impacted by this project. Currently, the NCDOT has set aside $1,960,000 for right-of-way takings. If your property will be affected, contact one of our attorneys (four of whom previously worked on behalf of the NCDOT) for a free case evaluation.

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
