Description
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to improve a 1.8-mile stretch of Carolina Beach Road (US 421) in Wilmington from Burnett Avenue to Shipyard Boulevard (US 117). These upgrades are for safety and congestion purposes and include widening existing lanes, adding turn lanes, sidewalks, and a raised median and streetscape.
The NCDOT will need to minimize driveways and reduce median openings and left-over turn lanes in the median. More than 120 properties will be affected by these changes, including commercial spaces, residential neighborhoods, and historical areas.
