Georgia Road Improvements

Fast Facts

NCDOT TIP # R-5734B
Project Type:
 Road widening and upgrading
Affected Counties:
Macon
Estimated Cost: $
 107,358,000

Description

This section of the Georgia Road (US 23-441) improvements project will cover 2.5 miles of road, starting at Wide Horizon Drive (SR 1152) and ending at Prentiss Bridge Road (SR 1649). The larger project includes improving Georgia Road from US 64 to the start of this section, and is already under construction.  The final section of the project which extends from Prentiss Bridge Road to the Georgia state line is not scheduled to begin property acquisitions until 2028 or later.

In general, the improvements to Georgia Road will transform the road into a boulevard by widening the lanes to 11-feet wide, removing the center turn lane and installing a median in its place. Furthermore, eventually the county hopes to make Georgia Road into an expressway that would meet official standards. Moreover, there are currently no bicycle accommodations on US-23-441, and this project hopes to remedy that by establishing bicycle lanes, including one that would provide access to Macon Early College.

Macon county residents agree that the current road is dangerous, as it was the most identified problem location in a Goals and Objectives survey taken throughout the county.

Schedule

  • Right-of-way acquisition – 2020
  • Start Construction – 2022
  • End Construction – 2026

Property Takings

It is estimated that more than 65 parcels of property will be impacted by this project. Currently the NCDOT has set aside $13,900,000 for right-of-way takings. If your property will be affected, contact one of our attorneys (four of whom previously worked on behalf of the NCDOT) for a free case evaluation.

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
