NC 59 Main Street Bridge Replacement
Fast Facts
Project # B-4491
Type: Bridge Recplacement
Affected Counties: Cumberland
Estimated Cost:$20,600,000
Description
The NCDOT will replace the NC 59 bridge over I-95/Business US 301 in Hope Mills, just south of Fayetteville. The new bridge will be built 30 feet north of the current one, which will be torn down afterward.
Proponents and planners suggest that replacing the bridge is necessary to help maintain travel safety. According to the NCDOT Bridge Information web page, the bridge was built in 1959 and is considered structurally deficient - but not functionally obsolete - and carries a safety rating of 54 out of 100.
