Estimated Cost: $10,900,000
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to widen a one-mile section of NC 181 (North Green Street) between Clay Street and St. Mary’s Church Road in Burke County. The project will include bike lanes – as part of the Mountain-to-Sea and Piedmont Spur Trails.
The purpose of construction is to improve safety conditions and increase mobility along NC 181, which is the main road from Morganton in Burke County to Newland in Avery County. It is also a route through the Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
