NCDOT TIP # U-4902 Project Description

The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to make improvements to U.S. 17 Business (Market Street) due to population growth and increased travel through this corridor.

Construction will occur in four phases:

U-4902B Project Description

Type: Roadway improvements
Affected County: New Hanover
Estimated Cost: $3,900,000

Section B will affect a 2-mile stretch along U.S. 17 Business (Market Street) between Colonial Drive and Martin Luther King, Jr. Pkwy. and will include a median.

  • Right-of-way acquisition – Spring 2018
  • Start construction – 2020
  • End construction – 2021

More than 100 parcels of property will be impacted by this project. Currently, the NCDOT has set aside $500,000 for right-of-way takings.

U-4902C Project Description

Type: Roadway improvements
Affected Counties: New Hanover
Estimated Cost: $30,290,000

Section C will affect a 2-mile stretch of U.S. 17 Business (Market Street) from Martin Luther King, Jr. Pkwy. to Station Road.

  • Right-of-way acquisition  2017 through 2018
  • Start construction – 2019
  • End construction – 2022

Property Takings U-4902C

More than 120 parcels of land will be affected by Section C construction. Currently, the NCDOT has set aside approximately $8,640,000 for right-of-way takings. 

U-4902D Project Description

Type: Roadway improvements
Affected Counties: New Hanover
Estimated Cost: $15,600,000

Section D will affect a 1.7-mile section of U.S. 17 Business (Market Street) from Marsh Oaks Drive to Lendire Road.
