Fast Facts

NCDOT TIP # U-5771
Project Type:
 Road Widening
Affected Counties:
 Mecklenburg
Estimated Cost: $
 21,598,000

Description

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to widen and make other improvements to a 2.2-mile section of US 21 (Statesville Road) from Gilead Road (SR 2136) by Food Lion to Holly Point Drive near the Northcross Shopping Center.

This project is part of an overall effort to upgrade the heavily traveled US 21. The NCDOT will upgrade areas as reflected in NCDOT Projects #U-5767 and #U-5771 and include upgrades to the I-77 interchange and several intersections along US 21.

Improvements specific to #U-5771 include adding additional lanes and a center median as well as accommodations for bicyclists and pedestrians traveling on US 21. These will include sidewalks, pedestrian countdown signals, refuge islands in medians, and wide outside lanes on Statesville Road and Gilead Road for bicyclists. The project will also feature planted medians where feasible.

The NCDOT asserts that these changes will improve traffic flow, increase safety, and accommodate future traffic increases, as the traffic along Statesville Road is predicted to double by the year 2040.

Property Takings

It is estimated that more than 40 parcels of property will be impacted by this project. Currently the NCDOT has set aside $3,000,000 for right-of-way takings. If your property will be affected, contact one of our attorneys (four of whom previously worked on behalf of the NCDOT) for a free case evaluation.

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
