Description

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to improve US 601, from US 421 to Lee Avenue, in Yadkinville. The planned improvements include implementing medians and roundabouts to help reduce the high incidence of vehicle collisions and traffic congestion along that 0.6 mile stretch of US 601. Along with helping to reduce vehicles’ stopping times, it’s also meant to improve the appearance of the main entrance into Yadkinville.

The design includes a median island between US 421 and Lee Avenue to control traffic flow, as well as implementing roundabouts on 3 intersections north of 421, which would allow cars to make U-turns if need be. This would become a modified super street since there is an inclusion of roundabouts with the median. However, many of the home and business owners may experience an eminent domain taking by the government as a result.
